William J Caparne [1856 - 1940]

William Caparne spent the last 45 years of his life on the island of Guernsey.
His water-colour paintings of the island are highly thought of, and he is well represented in the Guernsey Museum and Art Gallery.

Besides impressive work in the permanent collection, exhibitions of Caparne’s paintings were held at the museum in 1986 and 1990. Several exhibitions have also been held at the Coach House Gallery, Guernsey.

The subject of this painting is Moulin Huet Bay, with Lion Rock in the foreground, and “The Pea Stacks” rocks in the distance. The painting is signed ‘WJC’ and is in very good condition, framed and glazed.
